Benefits of a Montessori School for Preschoolers

There are many advantages to a child attending a Montessori school. The following are just a few that can have a significant impact on their future.

Child-Led Learning

Montessori classrooms provide a variety of activities for children to do. Throughout the day, the children pick their activities – teachers do not. This allows them to learn through things they are interested in, typically meaning they get more involved and retain the lessons.

The teachers are there to act as guides through the activities to help ensure the children understand them. However, they stay mostly hands-off, allowing the children to explore.

Provides Sense of Order

Every activity has its proper place, and children get taught to put them away correctly. Not only does this keep the classroom neat, but it also drives a sense of order into the children’s subconscious. They take this order with them into other parts of their life, encouraging them to be neat.

Cooperative Play

Children are allowed to play alone when they wish. However, kids often gravitate to one another when they are doing something interesting. As the children are leading the activities, they often end up working together.

Additionally, Montessori classrooms are not as segregated by age as most traditional classrooms. Often, several age groups are in the same classroom, meaning both older and younger children play together. This does not necessarily mean that there will be a ten-year age gap with kids in the same class, but there is a variety. The more exposure a child has to other ages, the more easily they can usually adapt out in the world.

Hands-On Learning

Montessori preschool learning is not about a bunch of textbooks and in-depth lessons. It is about the kids getting their hands dirty. They dig into and actively participate, providing a hands-on experience that they will take with them.
